IGNITE Doctoral Landscape Award

IGNITE is a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Doctoral Landscape Award (DLA) that aims to develop the next generation of researchers with the skills to lead our responses to climate change and other environmental challenges and meet the needs of business, government and society.

IGNITE is a collaborative partnership between the University of Southampton, National Oceanography Centre, Natural History Museum, British Antarctic Survey, Marine Biological Association.

IGNITE funds PhD studentships

Studentship funding for 3.5 years which covers tuition fees plus an annual living allowance stipend.

Enables cutting-edge research

Students are integrated into world-leading research teams to place them at the forefront of ground-breaking research.

Provides an innovative and flexible training programme

IGNITE combines whole-cohort (core) training with elective specialist activities to meet the unique development needs of each researcher.

Equips researchers to follow diverse career paths

The programme connects our highly qualified and well-educated young scientists with research partners around the world, igniting collaboration across diverse fields of research.

Provides access to advanced equipment and facilities

Equipping the next generation of environmental science leaders with the skills and knowledge they need to exploit and develop diverse new technologies.
